The club was established in the 1960s, with well know names such as Jakes Gerwel serving as patron and Ambrose Sonn (brother of Percy) as chairperson. From the outset, the club reported to the UWC Sport Council under the directorship of Gus Jacobs.

The Oval field was built in 1976/77 which included two changing rooms. During this period, the club amalgamated with Kuils River CC, Bellville South CC, Elsies River CC and Tigers CC to form the Tygerberg CC. Political pressures of the day after the Soweto riots however, meant that this amalgamation did not last long as the individual clubs parted company.

After reunification, the UWC club started off playing in the Western Province 2B League, but an important evolution saw the formation of the SS4LS program in 1999 under the directorship of Nic Kock. This created impetus to UWC cricket with the objective of the NGO to assist primarily young cricket players from mostly marginalised communities to gain access to further education via a range of scholarships.

Today the club has grown to currently include 5 men’s teams, one women’s team and a team of 7 coaches under international coach, Richard Pybus. A team of administrative staff members including a medical team support a highly professional program. It has now become one of the most dominant forces in club cricket in the Western Province and South-African Tertiary Sport community with Zubayr Hamza and Lizaard Williams representing the Protea mens’ team and Andrie Steyn, the womens’ team.

There are many other success stories of those who have graduated from a club who has a proud record of having won trophies at national and local leagues levels and many more will follow, no doubt.
