Bellville Technical High

Bellville Technical High School (BTHS) is one of the first secondary technical institutions to open its doors of learning in the Northern Suburbs. Technical high schools provide an important educational opportunity for learners who want to study in fields such as mechanical technology and engineering, thus providing critical skills for the economic development of the Western Cape. In 2005 the SS4LS program, through the Educulture project, successfully partnered with BTHS to provide several township boys access to the school. Ashley Cupido, one of the beneficiaries of this project, progressed to be a SS4LS graduate and South African Students Cricket Team Captain.

More recently SS4LS alumni Esmund Van Wyk was appointed as a teacher and the head of sports at BTHS. He also facilitates the SS4LS support program at the school. In 2015 the SS4LS program initiated infrastructural developments, which included the upgrading of existing outdoor sporting facilities, and the transformation of the Jock De Jager Sports Center into a world class indoor training facility. This relationship holds only great things in store, as SS4LS has continued in their investment of BTHS. This investment builds upon the infrastructure development by providing support in areas such as coaching, education and well-being. The positive momentum created through this partnership has been recognised by Cricket South Africa, declaring BTHS as a Focus School, which will further enhance the cricket development program at the school.
